A new series spotlighting a few favorites (and making them style stripes)…
Angelica has been driven since we first went to class together in college. We didn’t talk then, but I remember her in class actively participating and speaking passionately about her blog. We became friends this fall after working together and I had a lovely time interviewing her at lucettegrace over her first macarons.
Angelica has been interested in fashion ever since she was little. She dressed herself, which she says was to her parents dismay, but they let her do it. She started blogging in 2015, after creating her blog and leaving it idle the year before. She started putting in work then, being more consistent in content in posting. She attributes this to her taking a semester off school; after having fashion focused classes every day, she missed having peers to catch up about the industry with. So she decided to keep up with the industry by herself!
As for why the blog is called The Strong Suit, it started as a men’s fashion blog (before expanding to women’s and personal style) and Angelica says, “Fashion is my strong suit.”
Just by taking one glance at Angelica’s blog or Instagram you can tell that fashion is indeed her strong suit. She describes her style as “whatever I’m feeling at the moment,” using one of my favorite words: versatility. This is one of the reasons she loves fashion so much, because of the feelings and expressions behind what someone wears.
“I feel like this might sound vain,” she says as I ask where she looks to for fashion inspiration, “but the first thing I do is look at my own Instagram feed.” She explains further by telling me about how she looks to see if she can put a twist on a certain outfit to not wear the same thing again, or perhaps there’s a shirt in the closet she’s forgotten about. “I want to reinvent,” Angelica says, which is what keeps her feed so interesting!
Eventually Angelica wants to be a full-time blogger. She loves the experiences, events, and people that the landscape provides her with. While a hobby for some, others make it their career, and Angelica loves the variety of people that the fashion blogger community brings together. Angelica has definitely got the passion for full-time blogging, and she’s even started thinking about the future. She foresees it becoming a fashion and travel blog; she recently posted about her trip to Charleston!
As for places to shop, Angelica loves MADISON, which is where she currently works as a Marketing Manager. One of the reasons being that she gets to see all the new cute stuff before it hits the floor! I asked her to style a striped look and she paired their striped Larimer Balloon Sleeve Blouse with their Marlowe Cape Top to create this fabulous look! She’s always creating combinations I would never think of and that is one of the reasons I love her style.
